I think at some point everyone should at least try going dairy free. You might not even connect some of the symptoms dairy may be causing until you eliminate it. And hey if you eliminate it and feel exactly the same two weeks later then go for it and eat dairy. But a HUGE portion of the population is actually lactose intolerant. Symptoms aren’t always vomiting or diarrhea or just digestive discomfort. In some people it can cause acne, constipation, headaches, or brain fog.
But eliminating dairy is not always easy. For me, it was not easy and still
sometimes can be challenging. And of course sometimes we give in and feel it the next day but hey we get right back to it and move forward. Dairy is literally addicting. We are programmed to love and think we need dairy. It releases neurotransmitters that tell us this is good. It is hard to eliminate. I feel you. Give me a good cheese plate and I am happy. LOL until the next few days when I am looking about 6 months pregnant.
It is much easier to eat at home the first few days of doing this because you don’t have to be tempted. There are so many dairy free alternatives now you just have to be open-minded with them. Some of my favorite dairy alternatives are: pea protein milk, coconut milk yogurt, almond milk cream cheese, and tofu based sour cream. Also, do not underestimate the power of avocado. It can turn so many recipes creamy. If you are cooking and making a creamy sauce I recommend cashew milk! Also, have snacks available that can replace a cheese snack. Things like hummus, guacamole, or another dairy free dip.
During this time notice how you feel each day and how it changes throughout the two weeks. The first few days are the hardest because your body (if you regularly ate dairy) is going through a form of withdrawal. You will crave dairy. But, after you make it through those first few days it gets easier! You want to make sure you are adding in more foods to replace the dairy; things like more greens and healthy fats. You CAN do it and it may make a huge different in how you feel everyday!
