Chocolate Hazelnut Stuffed French Toast

My first reaction to this recipe was, "this is outrageous". And, honestly it is. This recipe was inspired from a restaurant I use to work at and their Nutella stuffed french toast. I just wanted to make it gluten and dairy free and maybeee a little healthier. This makes two servings, it is super rich so one piece is perfect.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of cinnamon raisin gluten free bread

  • Chocolate Hazelnut and Almond spread (be sure to make sure it's dairy free if you need it)

  • 1 egg

  • 1/3 cup of milk of your choice (I used almond)

  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • 2 dashes nutmeg

  • Coconut oil

  • 1 banana

  • Maple syrup

Directions

  1. Start heating your skillet on medium so it is hot to start.

  2. Make egg batter: crack the egg, add milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla to a flat tray. Mix well.

  3. Spread the chocolate hazelnut spread on two pieces of bread. Spread it well over the whole piece. Add a little to the middle of the other two pieces. Then, stack the slices of bread like a sandwich- hazelnut spread sides touching each other.

  4. Next, you are going to coat the bread in the egg mixture. Be sure to get all sides covered well.

  5. Add coconut oil to pan and let melt. Add french toast and cook each side until golden brown.

  6. While the french toast is cooking, slice the banana and add some extra coconut oil and cinnamon to the pan on the side. When you flip the french toast, add the banana to the pan. It only needs a quick minute or so on each side.

  7. In a small dish, combine 2 tablespoons of the hazelnut spread and 2 tablespoons of syrup. Heat in the microwave and stir to combine.

  8. Put bananas on top of french toast and drizzle hazelnut syrup over. Enjoy!
